"New Year & all that jazz..."
Firstly, I cannot believe I haven’t blogged since July 2020. I think I acknowledged Covid & then just progressed into a cave for a while. I don’t want to make this blog negative, as I have already banged on about it all enough. However I didn’t get round to doing my usual end of year blog, as we all know it definitely wasn’t a normal year. On top of that we had a terrible ending to 2020 for personal reasons which just ended up snowballing lots of stress, & I couldn’t really face anything to do with work. Or anything at all for that matter.
BUT - I’M BACK. 2021, new year & all that jazz…
So although 2020 was ridiculous & tragic, I did manage to capture some lovely moments & more importantly people. I only managed to capture 6 out of the 36 weddings I had booked. 1 of them was ‘normal’ (pre covid), & the rest were micro / elopement. I was truly inspired by the couples who changed their plans & still went ahead under the circumstances. It emphasised the love & importance of a wedding & gave everyone, including me, a little hope. I also photographed some lovely families, couples, a styled shoot, doorsteps, lots of headshots & the gorgeous Helen Flanagan; so it really wasn’t all bad work-wise.
Personally, although it ended in the worst way possible, I enjoyed my time at home, especially with my dog Tink. In November we added in her little sister - Peach, so you could say I have had my hands full, & two dogs definitely help occupying your mind from the stresses of this crazy world. I enjoyed visiting NYC (pre covid), re-decorating, reading books, ‘zoom’ing friends, watching every murder documentary on Netflix, making Banana Bread (yes I did that), becoming a gardener, having a cheeky trip to Crete with my cousin when the world seemed normal for a few weeks; but most importantly taking time to think about what & who I want in my life. It taught me that life really is too short, so if you feel something - say it, show it. If you don’t like something, walk away from it. All we need around us is good positive energy & I hope we have all learnt from having space to breathe.
I am not sure what 2021 is going to look like. I already have weddings on the move again, but I am feeling hopeful that I WILL photograph a somewhat ‘normal’ wedding this year. Whatever the new normal is, we shall see…
