Highclere Castle Wedding - Kim & Sim
If there’s any Downton Abbey fans out there you are going to like this one! As Downton Abbey in real life is, Highclere Castle, where Kim & Sim got married in August last year.
Kim was introduced to me a few years ago by one of my 2017 bride's Amy, (who was a bridesmaid at this wedding). We were like pen pals ever since they booked & Kim even let me photograph her a few months before the wedding as Sim’s gift....:)
I knew Rob had to be with me due to the scale of the wedding & the venue. So Rob dropped me with the girls at The Vineyard whilst he headed to Highclere & the boys getting ready in the pub down the road. Whilst the girls were getting ready Kim pulled me into another room & handed me a Jo Malone bag which I had been photographing moments before thinking it was hers! It was actually a gift for me & the day hadn’t even started! Just incredibly kind, thoughtful & something I still cherish as I haven’t even used it yet!
Once at Highclere it was all systems go from then throughout the rest of the day. Including the indecisive weather! We were so lucky with rain dodging but still had the blustery wind. Speeches were before the meal which meant pretty much after dessert, we went into the cake cutting on the gorgeous ‘famous’ staircase, then their incredibly cute choreographed first dance! A few songs after this point, we usually head home. However Kim booked us to stay so we could photograph their surprise sparkler send off! So this meant we could do more B&G portraits & also gradually watch everyone get very merry, which included some of the best dancing I have ever seen at a wedding. Honestly I felt like I was at a live show for some parts! Such an amazing atmosphere for such a special place.
Not only is the building itself spectacular & quite surreal roaming around if you are a Downton fan! But the grounds are breathtaking & never ending, which meant guests could have long walks enjoying the scenery & it really was lovely to watch. I was pleasantly surprised that a location so grand could feel so relaxing.
I shall let the photos do the rest of the talking. But just to end by saying, I am so grateful we got to photograph here, & that we got to photograph such a wonderful couple.
